Using Wingman

Negotiations, small talk, meetings, calls. When you’re stuck, press once and CueBee tells you what to say.

5 min read
Someone at an event chatting with two people, earbuds in and a phone in hand
CueBee is always listening, but never jumps in on its own.It only helps when you press: a one-line hint and a line you can say as is, read into your earbuds.

Before

Once for each conversation that matters

1. Write a background

A background tells CueBee who you’re talking to and what you want. A line or two is enough; the more specific, the better.

Rather not type? Tap the microphone and say it. You can attach up to 5 files, like a quote or notes.

On Home, on the Wingman card, click Background: Set one first, then + Add Background. On Home, tap the Background row, then Add background.

2. Answer a few questions

Once you save, CueBee says what it understood, then asks the two or three things it would otherwise have to guess. Its guesses are already picked: if they’re right, leave them.

Bottom lineThings like “5% at most” are for CueBee only. It never says them for you.

Rather not answer? Choose Skip.

3. Glance at the preview first

Every time you choose Start listening, CueBee first thinks through the hardest moments: what they might say, and how you could answer. Then choose Start conversation.

Wrong conversation language, or it’s really a phone call? Change it right on this page.

4. OptionalPractise the big ones first

An AI plays the other person from your background and rehearses with you by voice. Stuck? You can still press for a hint.

Once the background is ready, Home shows a Practice first row; or choose Practice in the background’s details.Open the background in your background list and tap Practice.

Practice uses Wingman hours too.

5. Solo or DuoGroup?

It depends on whether CueBee needs to tell your lines from theirs. When it can, its suggestions fit what was said.

Solo

Every line the microphone hears counts as yours.Good for: practising speaking, giving a talk, or when the other voice doesn’t reach your mic.

DuoGroup

Tells your voice apart from others.Good for: face-to-face chats and meetings, one microphone hearing several people. Most accurate with a voiceprint (next step).

Duo is the default on a computer. When CueBee hears your microphone and meeting audio together, skip this: the microphone is you, the meeting is them.Solo is the default on iPhone. For face-to-face conversations, switch to Group.

6. Record a voiceprint once

CueBee learns your voice, so your lines are labelled Me and everyone else as a speaker you can name.

  1. Profile → Voice & tutorial → Voiceprint → Set up voiceprint
  2. Stay quiet for 3 seconds, then read the text on screen, about 20 seconds
  3. Say one sentence in your own words, then choose Save voiceprint
  1. Settings → Microphone → Group mic source
  2. With earbuds: connect them, tap Train Voice and read 5 sentences, about 15 seconds. Once for each pair.
  3. With the phone’s mic: choose Standard and record once for each language, about 15 seconds.
It only matters in Duo with the microphone alone. The voiceprint stays on this computer and is deleted when you sign out.It only matters in Group mode. The voiceprint stays on your phone.

7. Choose how replies look, and their language

Reply styleCue cards: press for a card, a one-line hint and a line you can say as is. The default for new users.Classic: Insight gives the hint and Follow the words to say, on two separate keys.tap for an Insight (the hint), double-tap for Follow (the words to say).
Language: check this firstHints should be in a language you read, the words to say in theirs. Both start as English: if you’d rather read hints in another language, change it here.Replies → Insight and Follow → Response LanguageReplies → Hint in and Words to say in
Speak replies: wear earbudsOn by default: CueBee reads the words to say into your ear. Wear earphones with your microphone; with meeting audio, replies aren’t read aloud.Without earbuds it plays from the phone’s speaker, and the other person hears it too.

Still have questions?

Will CueBee pop up with tips on its own?

No. It’s always listening, but it only helps when you press, and never cuts in while you’re talking.

Hints in the wrong language?

The hint language starts as English. Change it in the reply settings (see step 7).

My lines keep getting labelled as someone else?

Check that the mode is DuoGroup, then record a voiceprint (steps 5 and 6). Still wrong after that? Click the line’s speaker label and choose This is me.

Is the conversation’s audio uploaded?

Yes. Speech goes to the cloud to be turned into text, and by default a copy of the recording is kept in your account so you can replay it from History. Your voiceprint stays on your device.

What uses up hours?

Conversations and practice count as Wingman time; saying a background out loud (voice input) takes about a minute per background. Each plan’s numbers are on the pricing page.

Go talk. Press when you’re stuck.
